The Government engineering colleges and polytechnics of Gujarat are offering very valuable education and
skill development services to the meritorious students at a very nominal fees structure. These colleges are
also involved in the online admission process administered by committees formed by the state government for
the entire state for various professional post graduate/graduate and diploma programmes. However, at times,
due to financial and administrative limitations, certain service areas lag behind in quality and student
satisfaction. In order to improve these in government colleges, it was under consideration of the Government
to set up Technical Education and Research Society under the Technical Education Department. The Societies
at Cardiology institutes in the state under the Health and Family Welfare Department have done remarkable
changes in the patient welfare, as a result of greater autonomy. Hence it was under the consideration of the
Government to replicate this experience for the welfare of the student community of the entire state in the
area of technical education so that they will be better equipped for the industry requirements in terms of
the requisite competences and training for enhancing employability.
